Day 4: Secret Tunnel and Relaxing Night - Moose Jaw, SK - Regina, SK - Winnipeg, MB

Started the day by visiting the tunnel in Moose Jaw, then quickly stopped at Regina, and finally arrived at the wonderful B&B in Winnipeg.

They offer 2 types of tours - Chicago Connection and Passage to Fortune
We took the Chicago one. This was basically how Al Capone came to Moose Jaw and expanded his business from there as Little Chicago. The tour was not a typical tour. It was more like a play and we had to be a part of it. We were asked to respond to quite a few questions and escape from Al Capone!

Side note:When we got there, we thought that we were just on time for the 10:00 door open. But it was still 9 a.m. becasue SK does not change the time which we did not know. We learned someting new there!

2. SK Legislature in Regina - http://www.legassembly.sk.ca/
This was requested by Kumi who wanted to visit as many legislatures as possible during this trip. BTW, I have a similar passion to a province/state sign when entering a new state.
We quickly stopped and had quick lunch there!

We had to say that we were quite fortunate to stay at this wonderful b&b. We were quite exhausted when we got there but we were totally energized when we left there next morning!
The hosts were awesome and helpful. The breakfast was really tasty! Highly recommended!

ムースジョーの地下トンネルの観光から始めて、レジャイナの州議事堂に立ち寄り、なんとかウィニペグにある素敵なB&Bに到着しました。

1.　地下トンネル
ムースジョーにある地下トンネルに由来する２つのツアーが行われています。１つは中国からの移民がいかに地下トンネルでの生活を強いられたのか、もう１つはアル･カポーネがシカゴから来てビジネスを発展させてリトルシカゴと呼ばれるまでになったのかというツアー。私達はアル・カポーネのツアーを選びました。ここのツアーは演劇型のツアーで私達も演劇に参加するという面白いツアーでした。

補足：地下トンネルは１０時のオープン予定でしたが、私達が９時に行くとまだ開いていませんでした。よくよくサツカチュアン州にはサマータイムが無く、時差は１年中日本と１５時間差ということが発覚。このため私達が１０時だと思った時間は実際には９時。人がいないのは当たり前。

2.　サチュカチュワン州議事堂
この旅行でできる限り数多くの議事堂を巡るという妻のリクエストによりレジャイナにある州議事堂に立ち寄りました。僕は数多くの州のボーダーのサインの写真を撮るという野望があります。
ここで軽くランチ（いつも通りおにぎり）を食べ遥かウィニペグを目指します。　

3．B&B
ウィニペグのダウンタウンを１時間近く彷徨い、なんとかB&Bに到着。かなり疲れていましたが、ホストの夫婦がかなり良い人たちで翌朝B&Bを出る頃には、かなり癒されていました。かなりお勧めです。

Day 3: Big Flat Drive - Banff, AB - Drumheller, AB - Moose Jaw, SK

We said good bye to Alberta and hello to Saskatchewan today!

This was interesting because I was not able to find it first. I was looking up to find the canyon however Kumi found it out when she was looking down. What this tells you is that this is very different from Grand Canyon.

We saw the world largest Dinosaur!






3. Royal Tyrrell Museum - http://www.tyrrellmuseum.com
If you are dinosaur lover, this is a "must place" to visit. There are a lot of real fossils that amazed us (note that we are not dinosaur lover). Especially the piece found by the high school students back in the 80th was quite impressive. The piece travelled all over the world including Japan. See the pics and descriptions.

Very interesting "art" created by nature! This became the alberta provincial heritage site in 2001.







5. Rosedale Suspension Bridge - http://www.traveldrumheller.com/other-attractions.html
Another provincial heritage site. This was a lot smaller than we expected. We were the only visitors to this bridge when we were there. I guess not so popular.

２州目のアルバータを去り、３週目のサチュカチュワンに突入！

ハイライト：
Ａ．バッドランド（ドラムヘラー）－バッドランドとは化石・恐竜で有名なエリア全体を指し、ドラムヘラーとはその拠点となる都市名を指す。
１．ホーシュー谷
カナダ版グランドキャニオン的な売り文句ですが、実際はスケールがかなり違います。アメリカ版を先日改めて見に行ってきましたが、やはりあちらを見た後だと、何か物足りなさが。。。でも、アメリカ版と違い見下げる形の谷は少し面白かったです。

２．インフォメーションセンター　
世界で一番大きな恐竜の模型！これに尽きる！

３．ロイヤル・ティレル古生物博物館
恐竜大好きな人にはたまらない場所。僕たちは、恐竜に全く興味がないけど、それでも楽しめました。英語版のほうに載っている写真の化石は、世界中で展示されたそうです。勿論日本でも！

４．フードゥー
スケールの小ささに驚かされた（笑）。大きいものを想像していったのがいけなかったのか・・・。でも自然にできたものという意味では非常に面白く興味深いもの

５．ローズデール橋
正直言って、期待はずれでした。普通のつり橋でした。
Ｂ．ロングドライブ－９００ＫＭ＋というのは、恐らく静岡から下関位？とにかくフラットで長いドライブでした。カナダはでかい！

Day 2: Unexpected Event - Kelowna, BC - Levelstoke, BC - Banff, AB

We made it through!

The highway was reopened at around 4:30 p.m. so we were able to get to Banff today!

Mud Slide!

This was a good lesson for us to determine our problem solving skill as a couple.

When we were told the incident, we had the following options:

1. Drive back to Kamloops (about 280KM away from the point we heard the incident) and take the highway #5 to Jasper then drive down to Banff. Probably 9 – 10 hours drive to get to Banff

2. Drive back to Levelstoke and take an alternative route to get to Banff. Again 9 – 10 hours drive to get to Banff. The difference between 1 and 2 is that the option 1 was longer drive but a good highway.

3. Drive back to Levelstoke, get some info and make some strategies (ie. Wait until the highway reopens or stay overnight or 2 in Levelstoke)

We were advised to follow the option 1 and 2.

But we chose the option 3 which worked really well this time.

We did not panic and played this cool.

There will be some other unexpected events, but we want to rush and enjoy our trip!

何とか無事に着きました！

通行止めになっていた高速道路が4時半ごろに開通になりバンフ（ロッキー山脈観光の拠点）まで車を走らすことができました。

ハイライト：

土砂崩れ！

これは、僕たち夫婦にとって問題解決のスキルを試す良いレッスンとなりました。

僕たちが、この土砂崩れのニュースを聞いたとき、僕たちには下記のオプションがありました。

１．カムループス（ニュースを聞いた場所から約280KM）まで戻って、別の高速に乗ってジャスパーまで行く。その後バンフまでジャスパーからさらに3時間ほどドライブ。（バンフに行くまで9-10時間のドライブ）

２．リバーストークまで戻って別の迂回路でバンフまで行く。＃１と同じく9-10時間のドライブ。違いは、こちらのほうが距離は短いが道が良くないためスピードが出せない。

３．リバーストークまで戻って情報収集し、その後戦略を立てる。（例えば高速が通行可能になるのを待つ。リバーストークに1泊ないしは2泊して様子を見る等）

僕たちは上記＃１もしくは＃２を選択するようにアドバイスを受けましたが、

こういうときはパニックにならず、落ち着いて周りの意見に惑わされず自分たちで考えることが重要と思い、＃３を選択しました。結果的にはこれが上手く行きました。

長旅、これから先まだ色々あると思いますが、焦らず楽しみながら進んで行きたいと思います。

OMG - Mud Slide

OMG!

We are stuck in Revelstoke, BC.

Big mud slide hit the highway at Rogers Point around 10:30 a.m. (Just 30 min before we would have been there)
Because of that, the highway is closed at least until 4 p.m. today (with low confidence...)

We were advised to drive to Kamloops to Jasper to Banff but decided to stay here until 4 p.m. to save our energy.
We hope the highway opens up by then or before.

Oh My God！
高速道路が、土砂崩れにより通行止めになってしまいました！

ご存知の方もいるかも知れませんが、カナダの高速は、かなりシンプルな作りなので、迂回路を選択すると果てしなく余分に運転しないといけなくなってしまうのです。

今回のケースは、ここが田舎な事もあり、最低で４００－５００KMは余分に運転しないといけなくなるので、少しの可能性にかけて、ここRevelstokeという超小さな街で待機する事にしました。

4時には通行可能になる若干の可能性があるみたいなので、それにかけてみる事にしました。

さぁ、どうなるか！？

Day 1: Biginning of the Big Trip - Victoria, BC - Kelowna, BC

We are on the road now!

Highlights:
1. Visited a couple of good wineries in Kelowna
a. Dirty Laundry --- very unique brand name but make good wines. Bought 1 white bottle there!







This is one of the reasons why they are unique and are called "Dirty Laundry"　（Need some pics here!). The history of the brand name "Dirty Laundry" was also interesting - quite good story.














b. Sumac Ridge --- one of the big wineries in Summerhill. Bought 1 rose sparkling bottle there!

They offered us a tasting of 5 different wines (our choice) for free (actually waived because we purchased a bottle). That was great!





We are now at a hostel and are already ready to go to bed. So tired...
But I think we've had a good start.

1.　ダーティランドリーワイナリー
名前の由来は面白かったです。ワイナリーの至る所にランドリー（洗濯物）が！
なかなかユニークなワイナリーでした。白ワイン一本購入

2.　スマックリッジワイナリー
大規模なワイナリーでした。5種類のワインを、こちらで選べて試飲できるのがよかった。
ロゼのスパークリングワインを一本購入！

Day 0: Big trip starts tomorrow!

As some of you might have known, Kumi and I will start a big trip crossing Canada and US starting from tomorrow.

Here is the summary:

• How - By my car
  
• How long - 3 weeks
• Where - start from Victoria BC, drive all the way to Quebec city then drive through US back to Victoria (About 10,000km in total)
  
• Why - why not? If we do not do this now, when can we do this?
